🪩 New Music | Oct 4 🪩
I can't believe it's October already. Here are my new release highlights for the week of 9/30 - 10/4
Hi friends,
Here are three personal highlights from this week's new releases. After two very busy weeks, I’m hoping to get back to my regular weekly newsletter soon with more music to share. As always, happy listening!
Basia Bulat - Baby
🗓️ Oct 1, 2024
🎶 Indie-Folk Singer-Songwriter
💿 Single
📍 Montreal, CA
Similar Vibes: The Be Good Tanyas, Jesca Hoop, Joan Shelley
We’ve waited over two years for new music from Basia Bulat, and I’m so happy she’s finally back. To be precise, it’s actually been four years since she released truly new material, as The Garden was a collection of reworked songs from her catalog. Now, with her new single “Baby” out, she’s also announced that her next album, Basia’s Palace, will drop on February 21, 2025. I’ve been following Bulat’s career since 2015 and have supported her a bunch during my time at Spotify (happy to see Berlin is still in her Top 5 cities). When you listen to her for the first time, her voice immediately draws you in, and with each album, she reinvents her music in new and creative ways while always staying true to herself. Some of my favorite Basia Bulat songs are “Infamous,” “Already Forgiven,” and “Heart of My Own.”

Scout LaRue Willis - Take Me
🗓️ Oct 4, 2024
🎶 Indie Pop
💿 Single
📍 Los Angeles, US
Similar Vibes: Maggie Rogers, Meerna
Whatever Scout LaRue Willis is cooking up for her sophomore album, I’m all in. “Take Me” is the second single she’s released, and it has a similar vibe to Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson’s “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” (which, in turn, channels Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”). It’s a catchy Indie-Pop track with hints of Country that just might replace my ongoing obsession with her song Love Without Possession, which has been on repeat for the past two years.

Alex Kehm - Howl
🗓️ Oct 4, 2024
🎶 Indie Folk / Singer-Songwriter
💿 Single
📍 Rhode Island, US
Similar Vibes: Hazlett, Half Waif
Alex Kehm writes and produces all of their music, and with every new release, they prove themselves to be one of the most talented artists in their genre. In "Howl," they dive into the emotional weight of love with lyrics that feel raw and vulnerable. It’s another one of Alex’s songs that showcases the 20-year-old’s talent for what they do best: blending the intimate storytelling that defines their sound with dreamy, cinematic production.
Head over to their Bandcamp to buy a Demo version of “Howl,” with proceeds going to We Are Moving The Needle, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing the number of women and gender-expansive producers and engineers in the recording industry.
